The History & Origin of RamCo products.

Rammed Earth is an ancient building technique used to construct such historic structures as the Great Wall of China, Hannibal's watchtowers and 820 b.c. structures in ancient Carthage. The parts of the Great Wall of China are more than 2000 years old and still standing proving the durability of the building method.

Rammed earth construction, also known as pis de terre , is an old building method that has seen a revival in recent years from its affordability during the depression and during the 70's as people have become environmentally conscious. Traditionally, rammed earth buildings are common in dry regions where wood is in scarce supply.

Rammed Earth walls are constructed from a mixture of earth that has proportions of sand, gravel and clay often with an added stabilizer. In ancient structures such as the Moroccan Casbar and the Great Wall of China, the stabilizers used were such things as lime or animal blood, but more commonly in modern times, cement has been the stabilizer of choice.
